What is Top-up or Extension of coverage1?
Top-up or Extension coverage provides additional coverage days for a specific trip where travellers are away for a longer period of time than what they're covered for within their existing plan.
Or, in case of a trip cancellation or trip interruption insurance, travellers can add an additional coverage amount if the trip cost is higher than what the existing plan covers.
When can Top-up or Extension of coverage be useful?
How does Top-up or Extension of coverage work?
Here is an example of how Top-up or Extension of coverage works:
- Mark is going on a trip outside his province for 30 days and wants to make sure he has coverage for the entire duration of his trip. His credit card has emergency travel medical coverage of up to $2 million, for the first 21 days.
- Mark tops up his credit card coverage by purchasing Top-Up or Extension insurance from TD to provide coverage for the last 9 days.
- Mark now has coverage for his entire trip with up to $2 million of emergency travel medical coverage for the first 21 days of his trip, through his credit card and up to $5 million in coverage for the remaining 9 days through the TD Top-Up or Extension coverage.
