Overdraft Protection is a service that allows you to access funds up to your approved limit to help you cover day to day expenses when funds are low in your TD Chequing Account. Overdraft Protection is a short-term solution that can help to prevent declined transactions, late fees on your bills, and non-sufficient funds (NSF).

  1. Credit limit ranges from $300 to $5000 (the total maximum limit that can be granted is $5000 for all accounts)

  2. You must apply for this service, and it's subject to approved limits, interest rates, and repayment terms

  3. An interest rate of 21% per year will be charged on amounts in overdraft

  4. Overdrawn balances must be repaid within 89 days

  5. Overdraft interest rates are subject to change

    Click on "Add Accounts and Services" and select "Borrowing"

    Click "Add Overdraft Protection" and choose a plan

Frequently Asked Questions

Overdraft Protection gives you access to funds to cover your payments up to your approved limit. Interest is only charged on the amount of overdraft you use. To repay your used amount and applicable interest, simply deposit funds back into your chequing account.


Overdraft Protection plans are flexible and can be changed when your needs change. Simply call us at 1-866-222-3456 or visit us at any TD branch.

Quebec Accounts with Monthly Plan Overdraft Protection cannot be switched to Pay As You Go Overdraft Protection.

Note: if the primary address of any one of the account holders is in Quebec, the account will be considered a Quebec Account.


You can apply to increase your Overdraft Protection limit on your chequing account on EasyWeb (single accounts only) to a maximum of $5000 total on all accounts.

*Note if you have a joint account you can apply to increase your Overdraft Protection limit by calling EasyLine telephone banking or by visiting your local branch for assistance. All account holders must consent before the ODP increase can be applied to the account.


A missed payment occurs when there are not enough available funds at the time a payment comes out of your account. Missed payments may result in late fees, additional interest, disrupted services or negative impacts to your Credit Score.


With two options for Overdraft Protection available (Pay as You Go Overdraft Protection is not available in Quebec), there is always one that may suit your needs.

If you rarely have a low chequing balance but enjoy the peace of mind of having additional available funds, Pay As You Go Overdraft Protection may be the best plan for you as you only pay when you use it.

If you often require additional funds to cover your day-to-day expenses, Monthly Plan Overdraft Protection gives you access to additional funds with one low monthly fee no matter how many times you use it.
